Got prints that need to be matted and mounted? Learn the basics of matting a print with our friend Steve Burns!

This class will be offered twice. This one will take place on Sunday, March 29, 1-4 pm.

The instructor will demonstrate his techniques, then participants will have the opportunity to try it out for themselves.

• There will be a discussion of objectives, layout, materials, and tools

• The instructor will demonstrate the mounting, matting, and framing process

• There will be an opportunity for participants to mat and frame their own prints

Please bring with you:

• Print. Please bring an unmounted print.

• Frame (optional). If you have a frame for this print, or one you think you might like to use, please bring it. This could be a new frame or an antique frame. If you don’t have one, no worries – we can simply mount and mat the print and you can frame it later.

otherWise, WEAV (the Wellbeing Economy Alliance Vermont), and Hard-Pressed are celebrating the renewal of Spring with a 3-part series exploring economies of generosity, even and especially in tough times. These participatory gatherings will include seed and story sharing, collage art and conversation -- all in service of reimagining and practicing economic life beyond transactional norms. We hope to notice and amplify the gifts already moving within our communities.

Join our very own Kate Murphy to learn a delightful craft with endless functionality! Learn to make books by hand through a variety of sewing and folding methods in this beginner friendly course.

Join printmaker and textile artist Eliza West for an introduction to block printing on fabric. You will learn how to design and carve a small block to print well on fabric, get comfortable rolling out and applying Speedball fabric ink to blocks, think through composing an appealing design with your block, and learn tips and tricks for getting good prints on fabric. You will leave the class with your hand-carved block and at least one printed bandana in a color of your choice.

Sliding scale $60-130 per person. Max 8 participants.

All materials, including scrap fabric and one blank red cotton bandana, included in registration fee. Participants are welcome to purchase additional blank bandanas from the instructor ($6) or bring their own textiles to print on (teeshirts, dishtowels, etc. Be sure items have been washed in advance).

Celebrate revolutionary love by printing a broadside in community at Hard-Pressed Printshop! 

We will carve stamps to print alongside a James Baldwin quote on the letterpress. No experience necessary! Bring along your favorite quote about revolutionary love to make your own valentines!

This is part of our Printer’s Brunch workshop series, “Printing Messages of Hope and Connection”, which will culminate in public exhibitions next summer. Please bring a potluck dish to share if you are able. 

Printer’s Brunch Workshops are Pay What You Want but registration is necessary, and any amount donated will be used to support further programming at Hard-Pressed.

Pom Poko is another delight from studio ghibli, featuring raccoon dogs from Japanese folklore monkey wrenching a human development project. 7 p.m. at Hard-Pressed Community Printshop. There will be popcorn!
