In this beginner friendly class, we will cover the fundamental knowledge and mechanical skills to make books by hand!
Over the course of 4 class meetings, we will explore the delightful and practical craft of bookmaking through a variety of sewing and folding methods. Students will learn techniques ranging from one-sheet zine structures suited for chapbooks and small publications to more intermediate structures for sketchbooks and artist books. You will finish this course with several handmade books you have crafted yourself, and a deeper understanding of the endlessly adaptable art of making your own books. It’s really quite special <3
The class will meet 4 Wednesdays in a row, 11am-1pm: 2/18, 2/25, 3/4, 3/11
Ages 14+
Sliding scale $100-$160
Paper, thread, and other materials costs included in the class price. Community tools available for in-class use and free borrowing options. If you wish to purchase a kit to keep through us, let us know and we’ll get ya sorted.
